"Will it be Fun?"
Pearl Rotarians recite that every week, concluding the breakfast session with a revised, five-preamble Rotary Four-Way Test.
Club members proved even sessions today--combined in-person at Ecotrust and virtual through Zoom--can have moments of laughter.. and while raising dollars for the non-profit Pearl Fund.
Sept. 28 found Rotarian Corey Omey, chief PPRC "auctioneer," urging bids for pies that were made for the occasion or promised before Thanksgiving. Key lime, apple, pumpkin, pumpkin/pecan, chocolate cream--all were offered (two actually in the room, the rest promised by Rotarians).
The first high bid of $55 set the stage for others to agree, "I'll take one." When it was over, seven sold pies netted $385 for the PF.
Your scribe (Don Smith) isn't sure who won this bargain--two-for-one, pumpkin pie offered by Past President Adina Flynn. "I'll make you two," she exclaimed. "It's just as easy as baking one."
Fun and food--brought to us Tuesday by Pearl Rotarians.
(Reporter's note: The "Will it be Fun?" addition was adopted from an idea a decade ago when Phil Rothrock was president. The idea is now part of our mantra at PPRC. Kudos to Phil!). We're not unique among Portland Rotary Clubs with the idea of having fun, but we do it with gusto!
